50/50 is a movie based on the real-life experiences of actor Seth Rogan's friend. In the movie, Seth plays a character named Kyle, who is best friends with a young man named Adam. At only twenty-seven years of age, Adam learns he has cancer. Adam tells Kyle about his diagnosis but doesn't want to be treated as though he is dying. His doctor recommends a therapist for Adam to talk to in order to deal with his diagnosis. The therapist turns out to be an attractive young woman who is just starting in her career. 
Adam discovers he is in fact her very first client, which does not instill a lot of confidence in him about her ability to help him.
